Flood Services Canada, the Greater Toronto Area’s leading 24-hour emergency flood, fire, and smoke damage restoration response service team, is announcing the recent completion of a fire and flood remediation project at a 35,000-square-foot Scarborough industrial complex. Flood Services Canada was called in to join Dryit, an associate flood company with whom they have a strong business relationship.
The plastic packaging printing company suffered a severe fire late last month that led to flooding at the facility. No employees of the factory were injured and the fire was not considered suspicious. “We got there within an hour of receiving the call—there was soot and smoke everywhere. It smelled like burning plastic, so we had to take hazard precautions because of it,” says Chad Vanvari, owner of Flood Services Canada.
The fire was reported in the early morning hours of May 29 and was determined to be the result of a mechanical fault in one of the printing presses. Smoke erupted from the building as the fire spread from the machine to the roof. Vanvari says that there was also soot-contaminated water to clean up.
“People don’t normally think of fire and flood damage happening together but it does occur. In this case, the flooding was the result of fire damage to an interior water main. It took a few hours using truck-mounted steam-cleaning extractors to fully remove the contaminated water,” notes Vanvari. “We had to clear the lower levels for safety and stability before we could start on the walls—the soot and smoke damage went all the way up to the ceiling. Our teams utilized a scissor lift and began cleaning from the top on downwards.”
“In these instances, while damage has already been done, businesses need a response team who can be on site and working to save their valuable equipment within hours of the event,” concludes Vanvari. “A quick response and a professional team can save businesses thousands of dollars in additional damages.”
Flood Services Canada is made up of several quick-response teams who are leaders in flood remediation, mould removal, and other loss prevention techniques. Their specialties include fire, flood, and sewage backup remediation and cleanup.
