Flood Services Canada (www.FloodServices.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s leading 24-hour emergency flood, fire, and smoke damage restoration response service team, is weighing in on the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada’s (RSA Canada’s) new Waterproof Coverage.
An enhancement to previously existing policies, RSA Canada’s new Waterproof Coverage will insure homeowners against freshwater flood damage. The plan, which is available starting November 17 nationwide excluding Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Territories, will cover limited sewer backup damage, fresh water flooding, and damage caused by eaves, downspouts, and drains. “Part of remediation work involves coordinating with insurance companies,” says Chad Vanvari, Owner of Flood Services Canada. “Unfortunately, many times customers’ water damage claims are denied by insurance providers due to coverage issues. Plans such as the new RSA Waterproof Coverage plan should offer enhanced protections that will see this number of disallowed claims fall.”
Homeowners are still advised to review their active policies and to contact their insurance brokers if they have any questions or concerns. The summer floods in Alberta and Toronto in 2013 were among the most damaging in Canada’s history and exposed many gaps in consumer coverage that plans like RSA Canada’s are hoping to address.
“Nobody wants to find out after suffering a flood that their coverage was inadequate,” Vanvari concludes. “Proactive steps are always the best form of protection.”
