Toronto, Canada, January 20, 2016 – Flood Services Canada (www.FloodServices.ca), a leading quick-response company for water damage remediation, has further ensured its availability to serve the residents of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by updating its continuity plans to include influenza outbreaks. The plan outlines how Flood Services Canada will respond in the event of a pandemic serious enough to severely diminish staff levels or require relocation.
“The plan was developed to effectively respond to situations where the company is faced with a sudden loss of up to half of all employees,” explains Chad Vanvari, the owner of Flood Services Canada. “These would be people who are either stricken with the flu—avian or otherwise—or who are electing to stay home out of safety preferences, to care for someone else who is ill, or to take care of children in the event of school closures.”
Measures covered by the continuity plan include ways to secure replacement workers quickly while still conducting appropriate checks, how common touch surfaces will be cleaned and by whom, how to maintain communication and updates with vendors and employees, adjustments to travel policy, and the stages in which the plan will be implemented based on how far a pandemic has progressed. Managers will also be asked to note their available manpower, replacement workers, temporary workers, and other employee needs over four-month periods to ensure they will be able to meet the projected number of claims that Flood Services Canada would be called to.
“There will also be standards for how Flood Services Canada evaluates and sends home any staff that arrives to work while ill.,” notes Vanvari. “Not everyone may consider a pandemic continuity plan necessary, but if one thing can be learned from flood damage remediation, it’s that prevention and planning are always better for minimizing damage from a disaster.”
